The Dance of the Bubble Trees
Following the 12 Minutes Max performance The Perelandra Project for picked up by Dance West Network Recentering Margins Residency Vancouver where the Artist Perelandra got even more support and resources allowing them to start fleshing out other characters including the fauna and flora of Perelandra. The first of these to be explored was the “bubble trees” of the planet “Perelandra”. These trees were of interest to the Artist because of their dynamic qualities of being in theory fairly still (through slowly growing as all trees do), in actuality, they are inculcated in the continuous movement of the ocean. The majority of the planet “Perelandra” is made up of floating islands like large lily pads that ebb and flow upon the water. Because of this continuous foundational instability, the trees of this land end up moving a great deal, like a palm tree in a typhoon. Despite these chaotic circumstances, they remain peaceful and selfless. Moreover, rather than fruit these trees produce delightfully fragrant bubbles used by protagonist ransom for drinking and showering. These trees are intended to set the scene of this world and expose the viewer to the action of “The Great Dance” (a theological theory proposed in the book suggesting that all of Creation participates knowingly or unknowingly in a “dance” that gives and takes)
