Eldila

The next character explored in The Perelandra Project was the Eldila. The Eldila are essentially Angels described as having no physical body but rather simply emitting colourful lights. I was inspired by the description of their formlessness and light. I imagined this to be similar to fire which is also used often in Christian imagery to refer to God and the Holy Spirit like penticostal fire and the burning bush.

I was also inspired by the terrifying descriptions of Angels in the Christian Old-Testiment. Particularly, their vast number of eyes. Many people describe late ancestors as guardian angel whom “watch over them” and this constant survallience is not perceived as scary or an invasion of privacy but comforting. I found these contrasting perspectives on the Angelic gaze very intriguing so extreme watching of the audience is explored in the Eldil solo.
